XL2 Mic Holder

As a fairly new XL2 shooter, I have enjoyed immensely all the exchanges on the "Watchdog!" Here's a question that I don't think I've seen addressed here, but forgive me if I missed it: Since most of us agree that the stereo mic that comes with the XL2 is a POS, can the mic holder be used for a third-party mic? I use the hotshoe for my wireless receiver (if using 2 mics), and was just wondering if the clamp for the canon mic will work for, say, a Senni ME-66/67. For some applications, I'll use a boom, but for close in work where I might want the mic on the camera, I thought I'd poll the community for feedback.

Thanks to all!
Terry

Hi Terry
Or you could use a strip of thin rubber wrapped round the mic. to build
it up to fit the camera holder. It would also help as an insulator and
the cost would be almost nill.

Kevin and Henry both have the right idea. A shotgun mic won't fit on the XL2's stock mic holder (we use the AT897, and that won't fit).

We use the Rode SM3 shockmount, mounted on the cam's hotshoe; plus you can use it on a boom pole.

Hope this helps,

Sorry Terry; you said you use the hotshoe for your wireless.

We use this to mount the shotgun mic & on-cam light:

We use the ME64 on our XL2. I just cut up an old place mat and wrapped it around the mic. Works great.

The new light wave mini mount is width adjustable for most on-cam mics.
The mount does a good job of noise isolation, if you have to use an on-cam.
