Audio clipping...

Is there a way to detect audio clipping in the headphones, or do you just have to keep a close eye on the sound meter? My mixing board actually allows you to hear the clipping when you're plugged into the headphone monitor, and I've found it's an easier way to tune the sound.

Not a huge deal, but was just curious as to whether there was a way on the XL2 to route the sound into the headphones so I could hear the clipping.

If the sound is seriously clipping, it should be apparent in the sound you hear the headphones, but depending on your ears, you may not hear slight clipping.

If the clipping is in the input preamps due to too high input level, it may not be apparent on the metering, especially if using auto sound level. That is because the level controls are after the first mic preamp stage.

When using hot mics or shooting in venues with high sound levels, try the MIC ATT setting first, and if it provide adequate recording levels, use it. (Does not apply to line level sound input from an external mixer/sound board.)
