custom presets XL2
 

Hi you all,

It may look stupid, but I would like to know more about the custom presets in my XL2.
Actually today was the first time I really tried them out.
But some of those settings seem to make no difference to me!
(Although I wás wearing my glasses!)
For instance the "Knee"settings - I don't see any chances
V-detail: Nothing
Coring: nothing either (I don't know what to look for, as I don't know what the word "coring" means. I'm Dutch, maybe thats why I don't understand a few things? DON'T agree with that, please!)
NR - same thing: nothing

Could someone explaine these settings a little bit to me in not too technical Engish?
In Dutch would be even better, but then I'm on the wrong forum now, I think...

It seems there is more I "niente comprende."

I all the setting I found here on the forum, you seem to have different camera's then I do.
Here 's an example: (Wedding)
Gamma = 1
Knee = 0
Black = 2
NR = 1
VDetail = 0
Color Matrix = 1
Color Gain = 1
Color Phase = -1
Red = 0
Green = 1
Blue = 1
SetupLevel = 0
Sharpness = 2
Coring = 2
MasterPed = -1

My problem is that in my camera in gamma I have the options
Normal or Cine. So what do I do with "Gamma = 1"?
Does "1" mean Normal or Cine?
Knee options: High/Middle?Low
Black options:Strech/Middle/Press
NR options: Off/High/Middle/Low
VDetail options: Normal/Low
Color Matrix options: Normal/Cine

Or is this a difference between NTSC and PAL cams?
Not the same menu?

Or is this just me as an amateur among the pro's, just not enough knowledge?

Hi Chris, I downloaded and watched the video 5 times now,
learned a lot, but I still don't get the thing with the presets, as I wrote earlier.
My problem is that in my camera in Gamma I have the options Normal or Cine.

When it says "Black = 2" does that mean Strech or Middle or Press?

I would like to use the setting, but by hand, not to download into the camera.

The video give me no answer to use the setting available on the site here. I do understand the settings, but not the numbers on the downloadable custom presets.
The video showed me there are more differences between your XL2 and mine.
Mine is a PAL cam, FI. I only have a 25p or 50i framerate choice. Nothing in between, like your 30

Thijo, the changes made in some of the settings are subtle, but appear more so on that tiny little LCD the XL2 utilizes.

The best thing to do is to just crack open your manual and do an in-depth of study of what it has to offer.

Just ordered the XL2 DVD.
But you guys don't seem to understand what I mean.
All I want to know is, after I downloaded a preset file from this forum, it gives me information what to do.
When I get into the menu, I go to custom preset, and then I want to make the changes as they are in the file.
But when in the file it says: Knee = 2,
and in my menu I only see Knee with the options High/Middle/Low,
I think 2 stands for Middle.
1 = High
2 = Middle
3 = Low
That's what I think at least.
I'd like to know this asap, as I have to shoot a film next week,
and many things for my privat life depend on the outcome of that.
Maybe I should have become a garbageman, in stead of what I try to do now.
But I like it sooooo much!

Okay, Thijo. Got it. Yes, anytime someone uses a number like:

1 = High
2 = Middle
3 = Low

That's the formula. Same for coring, master pedal, etc, except just count in how many "clicks" on the sliding scale

1 click to right of middle mark = 1+
1 click left of middle mark = -1

Only it is a little difficult to exlpain in a language witch is not my native language.
But that's the answer to my question.
I already thought it would be something like this, but had to be sure.
