DUST AND ILLUSIONS
Directed by Olivier Bonin

Once a year, on a vast Nevada lakebed surrounded by mountains, the
Burning Man festival brings together tens of thousands of people who
are attracted by the festival’s promise of seven days of
“decommodification,” “community,” “artwork,” and “revelry.” But
increasingly, many question whether Burning Man’s mainstream
appeal threatens—or even upends—the festival’s utopian vision.
Through a series of in-depth interviews of the festival’s founders,
organizers, and participants, DUST AND ILLUSIONS traces the
festival’s history, while examining whether the festival is a victim of its
own success.

Moderator – Svetlana Cvetko

Director and Cinematographer Svetlana Cvetko recently wrapped
production as the director of photography of a narrative feature film
starring Adam Goldberg. Other notable credits include director of “No
War” (Winner Grand Prix du Public in Films de Femmes 2001) and, as
director of photography, “Birju” (Sundance 2002, Berlin 2002,
nominated for Student Oscar); “Raw” (Sundance 2005), and “Dorme”
(Tribeca 2007).

Tuesday, June 10 @ 7:00 p.m.

A GENTLE WALK
Directed by Brandon Katcher

While filming a wedding one day, a filmmaker, fresh out of college,
meets a Zen monk, who encourages him to drop everything and travel
to South Asia. Reluctantly, the filmmaker agrees, and begins an
unexpected journey—through India to the River Ganges to the
Himalayas to Mount Everest—that is both deeply personal and, in
many ways, universal.

Moderator – Michael Jacobs

Michael Jacobs's feature documentary “Audience of One” won awards
at South by Southwest, Silverdocs and DocFest festivals and was
included in the 2007 New Directors/New Films series at Lincoln Center.
The film premieres on the Sundance Channel in 2009. Jacobs is
currently producing/directing a 10-part documentary web series for
Sony Pictures Television. Additionally, Jacobs has produced over 10
television spots for Current TV.
