CLOSE UP SHOT, picture starts jumping

Hi

I been trying to find the answer,
When i do a closeup shot with my cannon xl2
The picture seems to start jumping and blurs.
Its on a tripod when i zoom out a little it seems to be fine..

Anyone know why??

thank you

Are you running auto focus or manual focus and is the stabilizer turned on by any chance?

Jarrod Whaley September 15th, 2008 02:52 PM

I'm with Jeff--it definitely sounds like this is due to a "hunting" autofocus, and the OIS might also have something to do with it.

yea, I had the same type of picture jump and found that I had the OIS on when mounted on the tripod, I know better but must have forgot to switch it back after a hand held shot.

After the change back I have not had this problem.

And for sure shoot manual focus and ISO off when on the tripod if your not already doing so.

Always turn image stabilization OFF when shooting from a tripod.

The symptoms described sound like a classic case of OIS fighting the tripod.
