Quality Loss in 30P Mode

Do you get better image quality when shooting 60i rather than 30P with the XL2?

Jack Barker June 24th, 2009 08:37 PM

No...

In fact the images should be improved with a slower shutter speed. I think the best images are produced at 24P, and the best combination of image quality and smoothness is to shoot at 30P.

Hi Caleb,

I've shot in all the formats in the XL2, but lately have been shooting with 30P. I think the 30P format is a good 'tweener: not getting the video-ish look of 60i, nor the infamous judders of 24P. And I think 30P translates pretty well into web videos.

So as far as "image quality" goes, it really depends on what type of "look" you want the XL2 to achieve, and what your delivery format will be (i.e., DVD, web, etc.).

Check out our recent uploaded commercial on You Tube, shot on 30P:
