XL2 Mod?

Greetings all,

I was recently pondering the release of the XL2 (and the Sony HDR-FX1 for that matter). I know the XL2 will have some options for customization via uploading files to the camera directly.

I know the subject of whether the XL2 is "HDV ready" has been beat to death but Is it possible that Canon could use this very feature to introduce a software/firmware? upgrade to introduce the necessary "pixelshift" and compression algorithms? If so would it be possible for someone with programming skills to implement this very feature now?

Just a random thought that popped into my head today. Sorry!

That is really unknown to answer at this point in time. I know of
no-one who has seen the SDK yet and only a handfull of people
actually have the camera yet.

However I don't think this will happen by Canon, or be possible
by the SDK. The reason? You will need an anamorphic attachment
to get the correct picture *AND* retain true 16:9.

After you have done this the complete firmware needs to be
updated to compress to MPEG2 (which is HDV) which might not
even have the power to do this (the hardware).

If you are very very lucky such systems have been built in already
(hidden) and might be "enabled". But that just sounds like too
much for them to do.

An XL2S might incorporate these features, but if I understand it
correctly you can't use any of the current lenses out there.

All together I think this will be highly unlikely.
