Xl2 Sdk

Any XL2 owners have any news on the SDK for the XL2 and what it does?

Rob Lohman September 14th, 2004 06:20 AM

You don't get the SDK with the camera or something. You will have
to order it and sign for it as well. I don't think it is available yet.

Jeff Donald September 14th, 2004 06:38 AM

You have to apply to Canon to be a software developer. If approved, they'll forward you a link to download the SDK.

Rob Lohman September 14th, 2004 06:48 AM

Do you happen to know how and where this is done Jeff?

Jeff Donald September 14th, 2004 07:09 AM

It will be on the Canon's site when it is available. The support page is blank as of now.

Don Berube September 17th, 2004 02:39 AM

Who here knows how to program for the MAC in C++? Please say hello.

Looking forward,

- don

I think you have to fill out an application to be considered for the SDK. You have to sign a form or an NDA or whatever. It isn't available to just anybody; it's not shareware. They're going to control who gets it and who doesn't, at least that was my understanding.

Rob Lohman September 20th, 2004 02:29 AM

Okay, but the question is how to apply then. I'd like to take a look
myself and I am a professional programmer. So that should be
enough I hope.

Aaron Koolen September 20th, 2004 02:55 AM

Rob, if you find out how to go about applying, let us know will you?

Cheers
Aaron

Rob Lohman September 20th, 2004 03:02 AM

Will do for sure Aaron!

Jeff Donald September 20th, 2004 06:17 AM

Based upon the digital cameras SDK application, you'll be asked what type of program(s) you will develop. They don't ask too many specifics, but it is intended only for those that will actually develop software for the camera, not just the curious.

Aaron Koolen September 20th, 2004 02:42 PM

Let's hope they tell us what it can do before asking us right?! ;)

Aaron

Jeff Donald September 24th, 2004 09:18 PM

No, Canon does not tell anyone what the SDK can do. Development of software is up to the developer. The SDK just facilitates your task. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

Chris Hurd September 24th, 2004 11:10 PM

I don't have the first clue as to how you'd actually apply for it. Call their marketing dept. I guess, and ask for the product manager.

Jeff Donald September 25th, 2004 05:16 AM

There will be an online application when the SDK is ready (at least that's the way it works for the dSLR's). Robert Knecht Schmidt has an SDK for the cameras.
