Xl2 &Widescreen dimensions questions

General questions : the xl2 16:9 pixel dimensions are 960 X 480, is that the same pixel dimensions on a widescreen high definition tv? What happens to the extra pixels on a 740 X 480 tv or editing system?

William, I think this thread will probably answer your question: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...threadid=29087

Actually the pixel dimensions for NTSC DV-25 are 720x480, and this is what DV cameras always write to tape regardless of the resolution or aspect ratio of their CCD's. When viewed on a square pixel device like an LCD or plasma widescreen TV this data will be stretched to fill the 16:9 screen. So on an HD-capable display it will be up-rezzed to 1280x720 or on an ED (enhanced definition) plasma screen it will be horizontally stretched to 854x480.

In your NLE software it will be displayed as 854x480 (or some fraction thereof), but the actual footage will still be 720x480. If viewed on a regular 4:3 TV everything will appear squashed and too tall. If you burn to DVD then the DVD player itself is capable of letterboxing it for 4:3 TV's.
