XL2 for Surf Photography
 

Aloha,

Does anyone out there have a XL2 or XL1 that they are
using in surf photography? or something close to it?

I would like to add video work to my surf photography business.
Would the XL2 be a good choice for this type of work?

If so, what type of lens would be recommended?

If not, is there some other video camera that would be best suited
for surf photography work.

If you are shooting from shore, the XL2 is probably the best video camera in the world for shooting surf footage. The stock 20x lens would be my choice, possibly with the tele-extender. It's got good reach on its own, better than anything else in its class. The image stabilization is great. Plus, if you really need HUGE zoom, you can use an adapter that will allow Canon EF lenses on it that will give you in the 1000's of mm reach.
I shoot sports with an XL1 and can shoot handheld at fell zoom with minimal shake. The XL2 has got to be even better than the XL1

If you are shooting from the surf, in the water, I'd probably go with a DVX100 since the cost of a good waterproof case for an XL2 is probably more than a DVX and case combined. If money is no object, than the XL2 is still my first choice. The wide angle lens would let you get some pretty nice shots.

I will be shooting from the shoreline. What type of tripod
would you recommend for this video camera?

I'm using an XL2 for surfphotography. I'm using it in a waterhousing. It is amazzzzzzziiinnnnggggg. I would most def. get it if you can afford it. I've used it for some underwater things as well it is an A++++++++.

to get a few questions answered. Sounds like I will be very happy
with my purchase.

What type of water housing are you using?

Okay on the underwater shots too. Sounds great. Looking
forward on getting this new camera. Do you have any video clips
available to view?

Any comments to what would be a good
tripod to use with this unit?
