someone worked with SONY TRV 950??

I want to buy a canon XL2.
I now have a SONY TRV 950. Is there anyone who worked with both? What can I aspect?

Hi Tim,

I have used the TRV 950 and own its predecessor, the TRV 900. I must say, it is a great series of cameras -- the color and clarity are excellent.

I am planning to buy an XL2 within the next few weeks, but only after much research and comparison with my projects' needs. The features I need are mostly the obvious ones: 24p, 16:9 widescreen capturing, and lens interchangability. Basically, my upcoming projects are cinematic projects requiring the ability of the XL2.

Consider your needs before dropping the five grand -- if the TRV 950 can do everything you need it to do, then you are well off with that little bugger. If you really need the XL2's capabilities, then it'll be money well spent. Personally, I will still be keeping my TRV 900 as the "run and gun, no license, keep it hidden" camera.

The trickiest thing you can expect between the two cameras is the difference in color. I've shot a project with a 900 and an XL1s before and had to spend a lot of time matching the images in Premiere and After Effects. Some of the differences can be subtle but still noticeable; so you'll have to tweak more. Still, when you get it right, it's as smooth as silk; and I expect no less with the XL2.

Yes, the TRV 950 IS a great cam. And I'm not gonna sel it when I got my XL2, becouse you never know when it might be coming handy, like underwaterfootage, shoots from a rollercoaster etc.
But the reasons I would like to go to the XL2 are same like everyone elses I guess: Real 16:9, 24p, a good microphone (instead of the two little ones on the front of the TRV 950, with btw I always hit when focussing, Aaargh!), Good (interchangeble) canon lens, all manual functions, and of corse: XLR connectors!
And two things I hate about my TRV 950, and I hope will be better on the XL2: Poor low light (7lux!! c'mone!!), and a verry pore wide angle! I don't know what you think about the wide angle on XL1/XL2 versus TRV 900/950?
