Downloading the Free DV-PC Recorder Software

Me again, lots of questions lined up today.

I tried to download the above software from www.canondv.com for the XL2 but it's failing miserably. I enter all my details and I get a screen with the download link. When I click nothing happens. I've tried it on a pc and my mac. Is it only for NTSC cameras and it's detecting I'm from Ireland (PAL) and just not bothering to do anything?

Can anybody upload this software or is it not for general distribution? Why do they not make it available to XL1 owners? Or do they?

Other problem with the website is that if you retry you have to enter all your details again. I've been using the web for a few years now so I don't think I'm doing something wrong? Maybe I am?

btw: If any of you have downloaded this software and have used it... is it worth the bother? Canon are usually not too hot regards software going by the stuff that came with my 10D SLR

Anyway, thanks for any replies...
Donie

I managed to download the program from the Canon Asia site. You need to register your camera serial number so I'm not sure if you want to try it or not (link is below). The program works OK but is quite limited in what it does, so if you already have an NLE with a DV capture program on a notebook then you don't need it.

I personally think it's completely worthless. You can't capture any pre-recorded video with it. The only video it will capture is what you are seeing through the viewfinder in camera mode at that exact instant. I downloaded it and very quickly uninstalled it when I found this out.

i cant seeing it being that bad
plus it save you from have to go spend more money on a small monitor

ya it doesnt let you capture pre-recorded but it lets you not have to use the viewfinder since the screen is bigger on the laptop

thats the only reason i plan on useing it

cheers

thanks Mike, got it...

If anybody wants it... don't know if I can post a link to free software??

Um, to keep their legal department off my back, it's probably best if you didn't. Thanks,

Donnie,

I downloaded it from the Canon Europe site not long after the camera first came out. Looks like it is still there (they'll want the camera serial number and answers to a couple of survey-type questions):

I finally got around to trying it to record directly to HDD without a tape in the camera. It worked smooth as silk; no dropped frames even on a heavily used, almost 3 year old 1.7GHz laptop. As Brent pointed out the applet is a simple live-recording tool, not a full-featured capture utility. If you simply want to capture to a PC hard drive, it works and is very simple to use.

Does this software have any other utilities like the DVrack?

Chris Hurd January 26th, 2005 03:31 PM

Absolutely no other utilities except for a disk write speed checker.
