Image stabilizer off with tripod ?

The XL2 manaul sais as follows:
"We recommend turning off the image stabilizer when mounting the camcorder on a tripod"

It doesn't explain why. Anyone here knows why ?

Hi Frank,

It's because the image stabilizer will fight with you as you pan on the tripod. It will sense this as undesired hand held movement and try to cancel it out. Therefore, you will experience a lag effect if you leave the stabilizer on.

It's very easy to see for yourself. Go ahead and leave IS on then do a rather rapid pan on the tripod. Then, switch IS off and repeat the same pan move. The difference will be obvious.

There is currently a thread going on in the "support your camera"
