Camera Insurance in Canada

Hi, I am about to recieve my Canon XL2 and I have a question before I get it!

I Don't thnk I should be out filming in a major metropolitan area with a $6000 camera and $5000 of accessories without insurance on my cam. You know, in case of theft or damage or such.

I will be suing this camera commercially and I was wondering if any Canadians know of a good insurance company who can offer such a package?

Many Thanks...

There are two ways I know of doing this.

When I had my XL1S I insured it as a rider onto my renter's insurance. Basically, it covers everything from theft, loss, breakage. I pay a rider fee on top of my regular premium.

You can also join a photography association and get insurance through them. It may require that you have a business license.

I'm sure there are other ways.

I live in Toronto, and last year I was covered by Unionville Insurance* under this package

Or was it this one, can't remember :P

Cost: $700-800 per year. $1K deductable.
Covers everything including accidental damage like breaking your lens from a fall.

I'm not covered at the moment though - looking for a better deal, maybe with allstate.ca home insurance. Unionville was good but since I don't use my gear for commercial purposes (yet) I don't feel I need business grade insurance.

Keith: Who is your insurance company?

* after someone at Vistek recommended them to me. Unionville Insurance is now known as cgbgroup.

Roger, my home insurance is through Empire Financial.
