Tried out the XL2
Well, stopped into a local dealer and checked out the XL2. My impressions:
Smaller than I thought it would be, but a tad front heavy. More comfortable on my shoulder than I thought it would be also, but I think it would bother me for long shoots. You really have to tighten up that hand strap. Nice placement of controls and it seems solidly built. I really didn't like the viewfinder at all. Very soft and it seemed like it would not stay in place when mounted on a tripod. You either would have to use you eye to keep it still or flip it up to reaveal the LCD. Lens seemed pretty decent, much like other servos. Overall, if I decide to buy it, the mono viewfinder would be a must. |
I think what I would like to get eventually is a camera mounted LCD screen, no bigger than say 4 or 5 inches, and then use the Mono viewfinder. I like that combo, but unfortunately I don't have that $$ laying around. :o(

Does it come in Cream & Red to match the XL2? Or just the so-last-season metallic finish?
Just kidding! More importantly how is the resolution? Is it useful as a focus tool or just a reference monitor? |
I've never used one, but I think it would be just convenient for composing your shots. As far as focusing, that's what the monochrome viewfinder is good for.
yeah, wouldn't it be cool to get it in the XL2 colors! haha |
Adam-
who sells that unit? Bruce yarock |
no one that I normally purchase from, but B&H has a nice selection of "on-camera" LCD monitors. Check em out.. LINK
