XL2 footage
 

I always see posts from people wanting to see XL2 footage. So here is a project we shot with our XL2. It was all shot in manual 60i with very minimal lighting. I think we had 2 650 soft boxes and 4 300W arris.

Great Footage; Overall quality is excellent and well put together; not to long or short

Its kind of funny b/c we have had a lot of people ask us if it was shot on Beta. I would say that bodes pretty well for the XL2.

Wonderful footage. Clean, crisp, color, lighting perfect. You and the XL2 make a great team.

What are the equipments/accessories that you used for shooting those footage (filters, lens, XL2 manual Settings, editing, etc) and getting that film look.

Other specific questions:
I like the man with the hat going to the village or something like that. What settings did you use there?

What XL2 setting did you use where the young guy and girl met on the street that has a U.S flag showing. Also I in the footage, both the actor and actress are wearing a jacket.?


What camera settings did you use when the lady and the guy at the village were in front of an old cottage house?

Also what camera settings did you use when the young asian guys was reading at the dinning.?

How did you do the blue saturation in the footage that has a black guy and girl kissing? I love this footage because it looks more like a Dansel Washington film.

The trailer for the beautiful lie was shot with the XL2, in 24p 2:3 mode, using the P+S Technik 35mm lens adapter. The XL2 was in manual mode with the Camera settings all in “cine” with no other camera adjustments. As far as editing, and/or color correction, none was made at the time of the trailer editing. What you see is what the raw footage looks like.

The scene where the guy and the girl meet on the street is also from the Beautiful Lie. So, that mentioned above applies also. This particular scene was shot on a dolly with no artificial lighting. Incidentally, this location was also used for the shot of the guy and girl kissing, answered below.

The man in the hat, or “A Soldier’s Farewell”, was shot with an XL-1. No, not an XL1s, an XL-1. We shot with manual settings in the regular mode, not Frame mode, and color correction was done using Avid Xpress Pro HD. The lighting was natural lighting. We used no supplement lighting source other than a bounce board.
The man and woman at the village, or “A Soldier’s Farewell” were used with the same settings as above.

When the young man was eating dinner at the table (not reading) in American Tragedy was shot 4 years ago. We used a GL1. I lit the scene from above using a can light from a hardware store and a 250 photoflood bulb. The light was masked off with black wrap to control it more. I don’t recall what the camera settings were.

The blue saturation in 12:01 with the people kissing was achieved by setting the color balance to indoor. We shot that film with the XL1s in Frame mode and the Mini35 adapter. That shot, and the rest of the movie, was shot completely handheld. The lighting was natural outdoor lighting.
