How can I best recreate lost XL2 presets?

OHHHHHHHHHH NOOOOO!!

Before I continue I’ll state for the record that I’m an A.D.D. stricken idiot and I’m in deep stuff resultantly!

I drove 99.9 miles to Canon in NJ on Tuesday to have a back-focus issue repaired. Assuming (I know…never ASSume) the adjustment would be exceedingly simple I never entertained the possibility of my custom presets being reset/wiped-out by the repair tech!!

Because Canon is so surreptitious and disjointed about their repair operation I was unable to clearly ascertain cost and service info prior to my 2+ hour trip to their facility. As such, when the counter agent revealed the unexpected $400.00 fee for such a simple adjustment, I was aghast to where my reasoning skills completely escaped me.

Having no choice I surrendered the near-new XL2 to the facility expressing the urgent need for a fast turnaround. My family from NJ is visiting next week and I’d prefer to have them pick the camera up verses having it shipped to me. It hadn’t occurred to me (at that stressful moment in time) that the tech would remove the camera’s hearing aid battery and reset my custom presets to factory!!

The counter agent couldn’t promise me a definitive completion date, but he did say he’d put a rush on the repair. Much to my surprise I had a voicemail waiting when I returned home from Canon just 2 hours after dropping it off stating the repair was completed!! I didn’t have ample time to go over the situation in my mind; had I even 24 hours to ponder this situation I would have called in and requested the tech log my settings info! Hindsight being 20/20 I would have taken 2 minutes to jot down the camera’s custom preset parameters at Canon’s counter…but noooooooooooo! I’m screwed!

I am in the middle of shooting a cyc-studio video for which I’d created a custom preset. I initially annotated the camera’s settings (on-set) such as iris, white balance, shutter and in my haste (due to a protracted, nightmarish litany of issues/pressures on the sub-par set) I specified my custom preset as merely “#2” on my settings log. Why I never annotated the specific parameters of preset #2 is beyond me; I included labeled columns on the settings sheet, but I hadn’t anticipated a back focus repair nor a complete system reset; I just plain forgot!!

I more or less know I’ll have to eyeball the monitor with earlier footage played back through another camera on a different input, toggling back and fourth (input A/B switch) attempting to match it. Thankfully I remember most of the parameters such as blacks, knee, gamma, matrix – but I’m not certain about saturation, set-up, coring, master ped and sharpness. I know I was negative on coring, set-up, master ped and positive on saturation & sharpness…I’m not sure how many clicks however…is it 2 or 3…4?

I wonder however if anyone has ever had to match footage as in my situation and I’d be much obliged if you’d be so kind as to offer some advice.

Thanks in advance

SM

Steve .. I know your pain. Think baby! so you don't have them listed anywhere else? Are they not on a card? Did you start with a published CP and mod that? Take your best shot at them and shoot tests. Good luck.

Cheers.
