Lanc controler with push-auto focus for XL2?

Are there any Lanc controllers for the XL2 that has the ability to do a push-auto focus (when in manual)?

I believe one of the Zoe controller does it, but I saw a review somewhere that it works on a GL2 but not an XL1s. So it begs the question if the XL2 would work?

Ideally, I would like to be able to control Zoom and Focus on 2 separate controllers, much like pro cams; but that is just a wish list. Alternatively, does the 16x manual zoom support pro-type zoom and focus controllers?

Manfrotto makes several LANC controllers for the XL2. I have the 523Pro control handle for my Manfrotto tripod. It works like a charm and is very nice to work with. It will cost you a few bucks, but it's worth it. I think Varizoom makes one too, but I'm not positive.

Push auto focus from LANC is not available on the XL-2.

Does anyone have a positive recommendation of the cheaper zoom/lanc controllers ? I'm looking for one that just does variable speed zoom and has a record trigger ?

Check this one out Allen.

I just bought one for a similar reason, didn't want focus or anything, just zoom and record button. Works well with my XL2 :-) The rocker has a nice smooth operation IMHO.

When the 20X lens barrel switch is left on the Auto position the lens itself will autofocus without the need of a button on the Lanc control.

My Manfrotto 522C lanc remote provides wonderful push button focus control.

When the 20X lens is clicked to MF position the focus can be controlled forward and backwards by the Manfrotto 522C (two separate buttons) and this provides extremely accurate remote control.

The 522C has a wealth of various controls - eight separate buttons for On/Off of camcorder, On Screen, forward focus, backward focus, Man/Auto focus, Forward record search, backward record search, Rec/stop button, and thumb-control zoom wheel.

I couldn't live without it on my XL2!

Here is a photo of the 52cc model on the right-hand tripod arm:

Unfortunately the 522C version is no longer made but you may have success finding one in some stores or on Ebay. I was lucky in that Manfrotto got in touch with me to say that they still had some in stock shortly after that model ended production and asked me if I still wanted one. I'm glad that I said yes!

Thanks Allan

I've found a UK dealer for that one too.
