Newbie Question re: Manual Focus

I've been enjoying my XL2 to no end and have slowly been weaning myself off of all Auto functions. One question, for now anyway, regards manual focus and my 3x Wide lens. As I always though you were to do, when in manual mode, I zoom all the way in on my subject, focus manually and then zoom out. But, as I zoom out I lose the focus on my subject. I know that there's a perfectly simple answer to this but have gone brain dead. Many thanks in advance.

The short answer is your back focus is out of adjustment. Unfortunately that can't be adjusted on this lens. It's something I've seen a lot with 3x lens. I don't own one myself, but when I rent them I always seem to have this same problem.

Thanks Paul. I seem to remember reading something about this burried away in some post. At least now I can stop the hair pulling!

UNfortunalty, you managed to buy a lens that was manufactured before the XL2 was released. I bought my 3X last May, and it was a new model. I have never had backfocus problems. I would suggest you send it in to Canon. They can do an adjustment for you (i think) and have it all fixed.

Thanks Matt. I'll do that. I've got a week's worth of shooting ahead of me and need it for boat interiors so will not be able to use it to its fullest extent. But once this is over I'll check into it.
