Is the XL2 firewire port as fragile as the XL1s?
I know the XL1s had a fragile firewire port, in that the circuit could blow when plugging/unplugging the cable with the camera on. In fact, I experienced it for myself. I have since acquired an XL2 and am wondering if it is as prone to such a failure.
Also, I am wanting to try out Canon's DV-PC Recorder. In the instructions, it says to turn on the camera before plugging it into the computer. Is it safe to do this? Thank you for your time. |

Firewire
Colton,
I haven't tried to plug my XL2 in while it was turned on. That is because I learned my lesson with DAW controllers. It seems that firewire is inherently prone to two problems, sensitivity to electrical overload and instability when using more than one firewire device. I have not encountered a problem with the computer being on but I always plug in my outboard device then turn it on. Since I encountered my original problem with my DAW, I just don't take any chances. - Jesse |
Okay. Thanks for the info.
