My first XL2 film online!

Hi all,

Well, I've had the XL2 for about two weeks, and that is the first thing I've shot.

Actually, it's the first video of any kind I've EVER shot, so be kind, but honest in your criticisms :) But please feel free to criticize. And yes, I kind of did want the over-exposed look, for a slightly dreamy feel.

Shot in 24p, edited in Vegas.

Thanks,

I don't care about any technical issues, presets used, shutter speeds, shaky camera work, cutting the guys head off etc etc - I was engaged from the start right through to the end by an intriguing idea, well acted out. That (in my book) is what counts above technical prowess.

I really enjoyed watching this (98mb download aside!!).

Nice one.

Thanks :)

Like I said, I had the camera for two weeks, so I figured I'll just shoot a story
and start learnin' :) I had no tripod, nuthin', so I figured I'd just tell a story :)

Your going to eat up your bandwith if you keep your file that size. I say you encode it with Sor3 at a bitrate of about 700-750 at a max. You have a ratio of like 20mb to every minute you should be able to cut that file down to 20 or so. I suggest you do this to cut down on your bandwith. That aside it was an interesting story. The XL2's video quality makes any film look decent lol. The idea was original although alot of shots were poorly lit since I assume you just point and shot, and alot of was blown out in the apartment. Nice job though, keep on working at it. May I suggest this site?

Not bad for a two weeks XL2 user! I enjoyed the story, very good. Some shaky parts here and there, some settings isues but overall very good. I have my XL2 for near a year now and I'm still learning specially at 24p.
Well done Damian. Keep up.

There are some good shots in there but the XL2 is all about custom presets. Unless you want to do a lot of post work (and work in a codec other than DV) I would really recommend learning how to tweal the image in camera. The stuff outside can look a lot better and everything can look much less flat.
