Free Canon DV PC software download

Hi there
I was browsing the canon website when I came across this DV PC free software download for the XL2. http://www.canon.com.au/support/cust...&productID=xl2

Has anybody had any experience on this software? It seems like you can record directly from your XL2 to your PC. Can you use an external hard drive instead? Also has anybody had experience on canons new 'CONSOLE' image control and storage software for use with the XL2. Any coments would be appreciated.

Hi Anthony. I tried this SW when it first came out. It works OK, but I already can control the XL2 using my NLE (Vegas) so it wasn't very useful for me and I did not continue with it.

If you mean an external hard drive connected to your PC, then yes you can capture to it. Firewire drives are probably best, but USB2.0 should also work.

CONSOLE SW is very different, as it allows you to adjust the image and save the settings as custom presets. You can download the demo and try it out to see if you find it useful or not. I consider it very overpriced for my needs so will not be buying it.

This is a pretty basic live capture app, which as others have said is not capable of doing much more than your NLE's capture app can do. The one real advantage that DV-PC recorder has is that you can begin the capture by pressing the record button on the camera, whereas in an NLE you typically have to control the capture within the software.

I don't imagine this would necessarily be a useful feature for everyone, but I often find it handy.
