XL2 hours?

Is there any way to check the hours on an XL2?

Is there anyway to check into the warranty on a used XL2? Is it transferrable to a second or third owner?

Many thanks.

Rob Lohman March 7th, 2005 03:55 AM

No, the hours on an XL2 (or any XL range camera) cannot be
checked (it isn't even known if the camera keeps track of this).

I can't answer the warranty part, but if you also get the original
receipt with it who is to tell you did not buy the camera?

Chris Hurd March 7th, 2005 07:32 AM

Just to confirm Rob's answer, Jim, there is no way to count the hours unfortunately (another oversight from the product development angle). As far as the warranty is concerned, contact Canon USA and please report back what they tell you. Good luck,

Monitoring Recorded Hours on XL2

Hey all,

Is there a way to check how many hours have been recorded on an XL2. I checked for a menu option but didn't see one anywhere.

Thanks,

Mike

The XL2 doesn't have any user accesible menu or button to display total hours.

It takes quite a car to do native 16:9 though ;)

Not having access to those hours may be an annoyance, but it's hardly a "ripoff" considering everything else that camera can do.

Then imagine the car that can do that AND have an odometer! <g>

Hours on the heads

Hi
How many hours is a lot of hours on the heads of an xl2. I use a Sony DNW-90WS at work that I have 100s of hours on but it is a pro camera. With my xl2 I have about 30 hours on the heads. How many hours can the heads take on the xl2.
Thank you
John

As a matter of interest, is there a way to see how many hours of use the heads have had,or is it an estimate?
Also, if the camera is used on "pause" a lot, would that show as, hours of use? because it is, isn't it?

Mike.

Sorry, there is no way to determine the number of hours on any Canon camcorder. I'm certain that any Canon service center can access such information but they will not divulge it.

Out of curiosity, why not? It's our camcorders, shouldn't we have the right to know?

I find that a bit queer.

Hours meter on the XL2?

I'm thinking of buying a used XL2. The tape transport sounds a bit "Loud" but having never heard an XL2 before, I'm not sure if this is normal. (My XL1s doesn't make this much noise) Does the XL2 have an hours meter? I'd like to know what else to look for in a good used XL2. (I was going to buy it on Tuesday Jan 23rd) Thanks

Richard Hunter January 22nd, 2007 01:11 AM

Hi Gary. There is no meter on the XL2, or if there is one, it is not accessible to the users. I never noticed any significant transport noise from my XL2 before, but some tapes do rattle more than others. Maybe you could try it with a different tape and see if it helps. If the transport itself is very noisy I would shy away from that camera, or at least seek out another one to compare it with.

Richard
