XL2 Tips

I'm going to have a camera operator with an XL2 on my next production. I've never worked with an XL2 before, so is there any tips/suggestions you have for me to try?

I would say that your operator should already know his camera (hopefully). I would certainly quiz him as to what kind of picture I am trying to acheive. Motion picture? Live look? It depends on your taste and whether he can duplicate what you ask for. A lot can be done in post editing production, but I tell you it is a ton easier if you shoot it right to start with. One thing to ask would be what mode does he shoot in? If he shoots in Auto mode, get someone else. That is not optimal for really anything other than home videos. Hope this helps. J

He knows what he is doing. He is probably one of the best camera operators in the state. He definitely does not shoot in auto and I've worked with him before in post production stuff. I am trying to achieve a film look for a short movie. So hopefully all the lighting and stuff will be good since it's outdoors.

I would say you have nothing to worry about. Good luck. J

Getting an experienced camera operator was definitely a smart thing to do. Leave the camera operation entirely to him -- don't concern yourself with any "tips or suggestions" for the XL2. That's his job. You'll have plenty of other things to think about regarding your production.
