XL H1 pixelation and color bleed

HELP!!

I've been experiencing a quirky problem on my camera. A portion of the footage I shoot, looks really pixelated - it is mostly noticeable on fast moving shots. You can see the color bleeding across the frame. If you imagine a red sleeve passing quickly across the frame, there seems to be a ghosting of this red sleeve. It looks horrible. I have been working in 50i.

I had it serviced by Canon in January, and they didn't find anything wrong with the camera.

Has anyone else found this?

Best wishes, Tim

You might just be encountering the artifacts of HDV compression- the fact that it is most noticeable on fast moving shots is a clue. Great camera, but in certain applications where the information changes a lot from one frame to the next, you will really see the limitations of what it can do.

Can you post a small sample video or some screen shots of the issue?

This may not be the same problem, but I've been noticing ghosting as well. I've uploaded a still. This was shot at 24fps, 1080p on the XLH1, shutter at 1/60.

Notice her eye repeated. This is not interlaced obviously, because of the settings above.

It seems to be ghosting and turning it green as well. Any ideas?

I've been shooting with this cam for awhile and it seems to have just turned up recently. Her head was in motion, dipping down, but in full motion its pretty apparent that there is some lag, almost dreamlike.

Did you have NR2 on?

Dan Keaton April 18th, 2008 07:51 PM

Dear Tim,

Ensure that you have NR1 off, as this will definitely cause ghosting.

Can anyone give a reason as to why it would have happened just to the region of the eyes, why not the whole screen?

It jumped on her whole face, it blured where there was motion, the rest of the frame's objects were static. There were still small movements in the other person and when you zoom in you can see a bit of double there too I think.
