New w/problem?
 

Good morning,

I have had my new xlh1 for about two weeks.

right from the start every now and then the camera would stop for a flash of a moment like it was taking a still and then carry on recording. Any comment on that???


Opening up the tape mechenism is dubious, I slide the button across and some times it takes several times to get the mechenism to bring the tape out.

Is it going to have to go back???

I think you got a defect camcorder. It should definitive NOT stop during recording!!
Do you got any drop-outs on the tape when the stops occure?

The tape-eject can be a little cumbersome for me too, I have to eject twice sometimes for the cassette to open!

But I will definitive advise you to bring the camcorder back to the reseller/Canon for a check!

I do know that sometimes if you try to open up the tape cover just after you have connected the battery it is slow in working, that is because the camera is still fireing up.
But that is the only problem I have encountered. Stopping mementarily does seem to be some sort of fault.

Like Per said I would get it checked out.

I will have to shoot with it like it is until feb 28 as I have shots to make for the uwol long foorm, and then it will go back to canon. What a burn!!

Sorry to hear you are having problems. It is probably too late for you now but it is very important to check out every aspect of a new purchases functions before putting it into service. No manufacturer is perfect and it is much easier to raise a red flag on testing of the unit than it is to wait and tell them it has been doing it since you got it two months later. If it had the problem right out of the box they might give you a replacement unit so you don't have to deal with the issue at all. Once you have put it into service often they will try and fix the issue but you will usually have to wait on them to do it. Definitely inform Canon and the place you purchased the camera from of the problem now and see if they will send you a loaner. Good Luck

Well,

thinking I may have hit the picture button while reaching for the zoom (did not occur to me as I am used to my xl2, and it was dog cold out, I ran a test and recorded 1 hour of video untouched by me. As it turns out I obviously hit the still picture button without realizing it (it also ruined a shot) as the camera worked flawlessly.
Still not used to the idea of having a camera on board. how many mega pixs is it??

I find if I hold the release button over for longer it does open some times., just slowly or not at all when the camera is in off position.

I find this frustrating. If I am in a hurry to change tapes, I just may misss an important shot!!
