Why are camera companies not so forthcoming with this info? Pretty darned inportant to me.

Because it dosen't mean anything... lux rating at 0 db gain or +64626246568 db gain!??! it's only a marketing gimmik, only real world testing can answer this.

It is a marketing gimmik, but somehow you get a general idea. If manufacturers state that it's a 3 lux at 12db, I'll start worrying. Right now, we know nothing about it.

Anyone in NYC can answer this? Light performance please!!!

Guess there'd be no need for that film grain button, eh?

Although this opinion is pure spectulation, I do not expect the HD1
to be a great 'low light' camera. Sony has always been the low light
king. The VX2K is simply amazing.

When you pack MORE pixels into the same small 1/3" footprint,
it doesn't make physical sense, even with great processng, that the
HD1 could outperform, or even equal the VX2K in low light imaging.

Canon has yet to match Sony in low light imaging, but there are
positives and negatives in everything, and the HD1 seems like it
has (for me anyway) a lot going for it.
