What exactly is the SMPTE 292m Standard

The XL H1 passes an uncompressed signal through its HD-SDI out at 4:2:2 and 1.485 Gbps. I have read the Society for Motion pictures standards list, it says that it is 4:2:2, 10-bit and 1.485Gbps. On another standards web site, it says it can be 8-bit or 10-bit, which one is it.

My impression is that it can be either 8-bit, 10-bit or otherwise.

Chris is right and it depends on the camera's output as to whether 8 or
10 bit. One question AFAIK that is still unanswered concerning the HD1.

Even if it is 8 bit that isn't all that bad. Uncompressed 8 bit HD is a heck of a lot better than 8 bit HDV. Besides 8 bit uncompressed HD takes up much less space and some programs can only handle 8 bit video anyways. Remember DVCPROHD is also only 8 bit so 8 bit isn't such a bad thing. While it would be great to have a true 10 bit HD come from this camera it wouldn't be the end of the world to me since I plan on capturing with my Decklink as 8 bit HD anyways.

guys, I was also thinking that maybe it could be 8-bit for the D-4 terminal component output and 10-bit for the HD-SDI port.

Thomas, I also was thinking about the Decklink pci cards, but I was intending on using Avid Xpress Pro HD and decklink only supports Final Cut, Premiere Pro and Vegas 6.
