XLH1 Raw HD capture with Gemini 4:4:4

Okay

So apparently the XLH1 is no longer a viable camera; or is it. I have just learned that convergent makes a raw capture device called the Gemini 4:4:4 that will capture footage directly from the cameras sensor in a raw format. Now I have heard awesome things about the XLH1 when used with a nanoflash and have been looking to incorporate this box into be setup; that is until I heard about the Gemini 4:4:4. So I am wondering if anyone knows if the footage that one would get with this set up, the XLH1 and the Gemini 4:4:4,will compete with some of the images form the DSLRs. I have also been looking at the much cheaper Atomos Samauri Blade, although, I don't think if captures raw.

Someone please provide a little insight. I don't want to waste $4,000.00

The uncompressed output of the XL-H1 is 4:2:2. Some discussion on it here;

I think you"ll be better off to continue shooting with the xl-h1 in it's native format for assignments that would require this type of camera and get a extra BMC 2,5k or 4k camera for shoots that require RAW footage. That would be a much better investment.

I'm looking more for a device that will allow me to capture to something other than tape or a limitation. I think the BMC has a recording limit (not 100% sure about it) as well, I want to have the best footage from the camera i can get. Maybe I'm stubborn, but I still believe in my XLH1. As information, I also have a 5DM3.

I don't know what you'll be using your XLH1 plus Gemini whatever for. I video birds via DSLR lenses in the main.
Recently acquired an EX3 and a Nikkor 80-400 (latest one). I use with a nanoFlash. EX3/Nikkor images via nanoFlash are inferior to those out of my XLH1/Canon 70-300L/400 5.6L with a nanoFlash.

Stock lens on EX3 however far superior to that on the XLH1 though the latter longer and thus more use for bird video.

XLH1 HDV "standard" image is way way inferior to that with a nanoFlash.

XLH1 still a fantastic camera for use with Canon DSLR lenses and a nanoFlash for my purposes, wildlife at long range.

Thanks Ron.

I like the nanoflash but with all of the technological advances, I was hoping to get something with a monitor. Looking into this further, I am wondering if the newly announced Odyssey is an upgrade to the nano flash. I guess when i think about how old the nanoflash is and what it cost in comparison to some of the other possible solutions out there, it gives me pause.
