24F in SD?
Hey guys. Does anyone knows if this camera will shoot 16:9 24F in SD? If so, would that be equvilent or close to the 24P of an XL2?

Hello Daniel,
the camera will shoot both SD/4:3 (approx. 1.17 megapixels) and SD/16:9 (approx. 1.56 megapixels). Of course there you can choose the Frame Modes too. But it will not look like XL2 progressive pictures, just because the Frame Mode is not progressive. It is even possible, that the SD Frame Mode has a resolution of only 360 lines. We will see. |
Now that would have been stupid of Canon to do it that way. When a field of the HD chips have enough pixels for a true SD progressive image. For SD we are starting with over sampled chips so you should get pretty close to the true progressive from the XL2. Heck even the SONY Z1 can claim progressive SD by just using one field.

But Chris, what do You say then to this one from Thomas Smet: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=52635?

Well, what I meant is will the resolutions be the same? For instance, if you shot a resolution chart with the XL2in progressive and the XL H1 in frame mode, both in SD, would they be the same?
See, frame mode on my GL2 yields only about 75% resolution instead of a full 100%. That's what I'm asking. |
Thomas refers to examining separate channels. I'm talking about what you see on the screen, that is, what the viewer sees in the finished product, which in my opinion is all that really counts. As for any loss of res, Frame mode on the GL2 and XL1 is seven-year-old technology. It's a "new, improved" version on the H1.

Well, sounds good then, Chris.
