SDI to LCD
 

I´m conserned about the lack of LCD on the Canon. Reports are stating that the viewfinder isn´t too good. (I´m used to B/W high rez viewf.)

If not that important on shoot & run stuff, it will be in a dark theater with open iris and tele, (read little depht of field) trying to track faces mooving around.

Is it possible to connect a low cost LCD display via the SDI out and through Black Magic´s HD Link?

There is a traditional monochrome CRT viewfinder available for this camera. It's about $1500 (like any other EVF of this type). With LCD displays, you get what you pay for... I don't think any of the low cost LCDs will be worth it... but there are some higher-end, more expensive LCDs that are HD ready and include SDI input.

I see your point and take it that you´re referring to the mini size LCD that would be the equivalent, (as on the JVC HD100)

I´m actually not too fond of B&W viewfinders. I see them only as a necessary evil. They take away much of the joy I think. On the other hand picture has to be sharp and I hear that´s even more critical in hi-def.

What I was thinking of was if one could use let´s say a 17" computer LCD display as a (low cost) high def. monitoring. SDI to DVI. They are light weight and would be nice replacement of SD CRT´s when shooting live shows.

I am about to replace my JVC GY-DV500 with something a little more portabel and this far Canon & JVC both seems like good candidates. It´s a tough decition with pros and cons. though. I do live shows, documentary & corporate work most of the time by the way.

I like the portabel look of Canon. I like the 1080i option (though I believe the 25f is what I would mostly use) I like the 20xtele-lens (though I´m a bit worried about it beeing automatic) I like the SDI out and how it makes life easier in studio. I would love to finally have a flip-out LCD but also to attach my manual Canon lense.

HD100 has a flip-out, I can use my 1/2" Canon lence and my Anton Bauer battery pack. There is no SDI however and I would be locked to 720P.
Picture quality seems more or less equally good to me. I´m sure both are great cameras and that I´d be happy with either one. Prize will be about the same in my case. Still it´s hard to pick one.

Heard it before? I guess we are a few people in the same boat theese days.
