I agree 100% that looks do matter. They shouldn't, but they do. I know that when I had my XL2, anyone who saw it was impressed without even seeing footage. Ha ha… funny, but also poignant observation.

Anecdote: I am hungry to work on anything right now, so I volunteered to ‘shoot’ the Christmas concert and play that my church performs annually. Invariably, they kind of shrugged me off as a novice (which, well… I am).
They kind of forgot that I was coming, and lo, I show up on the day of the event, all decked out with my gear, only to see some guy with a GL2(!). I am setting up and he speaks blankly, "nice camera".

I felt kind of sorry for him, as I surly made him look bad.
