Interesting discovery re: audio

I mentioned in may last post that the audio was tinny. I had captured the H1 clips using the Down-Convert to SD mode of the Sony HVR-M10U.

For the hell of it, I decided to try re-capturing the clips in HDV. The audio is NOTICEABLY better, more similar to the XL2. I do not know why this would be, unless there is some issue with the Sony deck that hasn't been mentioned before - seems weird to me though.

This discovery causes me to rethink my approach to editing this project. I had intended to work in SD until finished, make an SD master, then recapture the clips as HDV for an HD master (which works great, by the way).

Now I will either work in HDV, or import the audio only as HDV and the picture seperately as SD - haven't decided yet - but I'll probably just continue on in HDV and give up the ability to view on an external monitor till I get a Kona or some other card... Steve Rosen

Douglas Spotted Eagle always said: "Capture HDV, and THEN downconvert your video and cross convert your audio on the COMPUTER ITSELF....don't use these hardware options for down/cross conversions to save time....you'll get better video and better audio that way"
