I like gain/grain when doing something creative with a DVX100a (or HDV)--set the gain at 9 db and configure the settings to give a combined look like old 1970s reversal film.

Tomorrow is the big day! Jon F. is checking out the HD100 and I am in full-on wedding mode/buying a house mode today (all within the next 3 weeks). Sorry to go off topic.

I will be checking out the XL H1 and Z1 tonight, just for the fun of it.

How'd things go Heath?

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of the "EVF Flip" not working? I have an XL-H1 hear myself, and I can't get it to work

You can only access through programming the custom keys, but when I do nothing happens. Maybe you can check that out

Barry - I know you were asking this in an earlier thread. Did you ever get it to work or get an answer?

Good so far--I have the camera for a little while. Interesting how it's looking against the Z1 and HD100. Essentially, the cameras all look great and unique, and it's hard to 100% distinguish between them all. If you have a Z1, keep it, same with an HD100 and H1. They're all great cameras, some advantages/disadvantages, but they all shoot wonderfully. Price, on the other hand, is quite different.

Am going to attempt at capturing tomorrow in FCP 5.0.4.

Awesome, can't wait to see some footage man! =)

How would you compare the canon's 24f versus post processed 24p from a Z1? Leaps and bounds better or around the same? How do they look different on an HDTV?

Shawn Alyasiri January 31st, 2006 10:32 AM

Any chance you could upload 'any' footage you have?

I'm at a point where I need to make some critical decisions in the next day, if not number of hours.

No pressure and certainly not contingent on this footage - just trying to compare, contrast, and fit as many samples as I can in my various editor presets.

Thanks much,
Shawn

I'm having issues capturing with Final Cut, so I'm going to try a PC at work. 24f looks good!

Heath - did you see if the EVF flip works for you with the stock lens? Thanks

Heath McKnight January 31st, 2006 11:15 AM

I'll have more details as the next two weeks progress.
