Is it enough for on-camera record to 35mm film-out/theatrical release?

Well, in my opinion if you're shooting for theatrical release, then you're really much better off budgeting for double-system sound recording. If you can afford a film out, surely you can also afford a soundperson, right?

Right but sometimes there are some circumstances where the sound on-camera can be the better option. Doc work, for example. Or other kind of indie stuff where the audio performance of one handheld camcorder can make the difference. Otherwise, why to shoot with a small camcorder if it will be always better a 2/3" camera?

On the other hand, I can have not the money to afford a film out unless after my final results with the festivals circuit after being pre-admitted. I know some cases where the film-out budget was found by this way.

I agree, sometimes the money for film-out isn't found until much later after production. I still think we'll need to do some comparative studies of the H1's audio quality in 4-channel 16-bit 192kbps mode.

i am rendering from this thread that the difference is really minimal. seems like low light is off the table as a deal killer on choosing the xlh1 over the xl2.
