Quick Question on H1 HD-SDI Cabling/Monitoring

Hi. I'm new to the H1 & HD-SDI.

Is there a recommended cable to be used for connections to other equipment and/or monitors to carry the full bandwidth/reject noise, etc?

Can you simply use a good quality shielded RG-59/RG6 BNC-BNC cable, or is there a more specific cable grade? Also - what are the known transmission limitations for length? I understand the H1 only transmits video on the HD-SDI line. I'd also want to consider the best cable for audio transmission as well.

I'm also looking at picking up a Marshall LCD screen for easier tripod monitoring, and hopefully to gain a better sense of critical focus in the field. It has been recommended many times in the forum to use Component input models over Composite/S-Vid inputs (which makes sense). They (and some other manufacturers) also make more expensive models that utilize HD-SDI inputs. I would think that it would be optimal for use with the H1 (especially considering the fixed length of the proprietary H1 component cable) - however, I'd like to know if there's really a dramatic improvement, realizing that a 7" Marshall monitor has a resolution threshold anyway.

Just wanted to see what people thought or if they've seen small field monitoring via HD-SDI.

Thanks,
Shawn

See my article at http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxlh1/xlh1...php#difference

"The HD-SDI output requires a high grade coaxial cable, at least an 18 guage RG-6 type such as the Canare brand L-5CFB, for runs of up to 100 meters (330 feet)."

Thanks. I'm having a little difficulty finding the exact cable. Would Canare L-CFB work (which I believe is rated for SDI)?

A link for question & reference:

Thanks again. Also curious about the monitoring with small field monitors with HD-SDI inputs (benefit or moot).

Sorry - I may have re-posted prematurely.

Perhaps this would do it:

Thanks.

Chris, do you know it says this at the top of the H1 page?

"What is the XL2?"

Let's talk about my lack of attention to detail -- fixed. Thanks,

HD-SDI cable- will RCA with BNC adapters work?

I'm working with an IOHD and a cam with HD-SDI out, and am not sure if using phono (RCA) to BNC adapters on an RCA cable will work for hd-sdi, or if a regular BNC cable will work (from radioshack) or if there is something else i need.

thanks

Sorry Austin, it *must* be an SDI cable. RG-6 is the most common, and suitable for short runs.

cool, I picked up an RG-59 6' cable from radio shack for about $9 and it worked great. I found a good reference on sdi cables that I'll post up once I hit a computer again (posting from my phone)

sdi output

i am trying to find out what length i can run an sdi cable from our hi's.. we have been asked to do an o.b. in a couple of months and we need to run by cables and the length of the cable run will be about 80 meters... does anyone know the length of cable run with sdi we could use..

About 100 meters without a distribution amp, but it must be RG6 cable or better.

See http://www.extron.com/company/article.aspx?id=hdsdi_ts for more info.
