New SDI experiments...

Hey all,

I lugged the G5 down to my sister's house the other day to do a little SDI experimentation in the field.

I shot her/my kids in the backyard jumping around on the trampoline in the late afternoon. I shot simultaneous SDI into DVCPROHD while also rolling HDV tape. I also did a little uncompressed capture. Here is a frame (just a scenic background) from the uncompressed. No, I didn't take a RAID with me...I recorded to my internal drive, which of course, dropped frames in the uncompressed capture, but I was able to look at some decent stills from what the drive could record. Have a look at one:

I'll post some clips of the comparison material later on.

btw...one of my goals was to figure out how to convert DV100 1080i into 720 60p, and then try a true over-crank slomo, ala HVX...in post.

Any ideas or methods?

I did the 720 60p out of 1080 60i on one of your earlier clips.Vegas was the ony program that did this automaticly.

Pete,

Can Vegas render out a 24p slomo conformed clip from the 60p? If so, please report your impressions.

Yeah, that's exactly what I did but I played it back at 30fps.Vegas resamples the video and it looks totaly progressive. You don't get the 'shaky' look associated with bob deinterlace at all and resolution also seemed perfect(on the low contrast clip I tested this with).

I also tried this with 50i xl2 footage downsampled to 75% and it also looks like perfect 50p footage.
