capturing from xlh1?
 

I got to play with an xlh1 today...very nice. I wish it was $6000...Anyways,I wanted to know if you can capture hdv footage with something cheaper like a Sony fx1, and not have to put the wear and tear on the $9000 rig.
Also, has firestore come out with a unit to capture hdv?

I'd have to double-check to make sure, but I think I was successfully able to capture XLH1 HDV footage by playing the tape in my FX1. And yes, there is an HDV option for the Firestore FS-4 which works with the XLH1. I know someone who has this setup.

The story right now is the 24f footage can only be captured using the camera. Apparantly no other deck or camera exists that can read 24f mode footage. Something non-standard about the way they chose to lay down to tape.

I believe the other modes work fine (but now that I think about it I'm not sure about 30f).

Are you talking about a Sony deck, or the fx1.

The tests where done on the Sony HDV deck but should hold true for the Sony HDV camcorders as well. Since Sony is discontinuing that model and introducing two new ones to be available in June we might have different options soon.
