Thanks for correcting that -- my bad. Indeed the XL2 is true progressive scan CCD. Which means true 24p. I'd hate for my little nugget of mis-information to propagate.

Thanks Barlow. That's the answer I expected. I'd be very surprised if someone said they could see any difference between Frame mode on the H1 and progressive scan on the XL2. The H1 operator's manual even refers to Frame mode as "progressive," and for all intents and purposes, that's exactly what it is.

Canon, in all likelihood, felt comfortable in calling the H1's SD 24F "progressive" because there's literally enough resolution in the chip to derive a progressive SD frame from a field of HD.

How else could you get NTSC progressive from a 1080i chip?
