To get portability (such as a Firestore device) you currently have to accept degrading compression like Cineform/Wafian or Sheer or accept more bulk in the drive array.

But Sheer/Cineform are very Sweet 4:2:2 - aLot Better than HDV ! And I would Love to capture to a laptop on most of the shoots I am doing that would be the Best.

Granite Digital also makes a SATAII laptop card for $59.
Granite Digital 4 bay enclosure hot swap SATA II $299
4 320 gig Seagate Barracuda drives @ Newegg.com ($94 ea) $376

For less than $800 a 1.2 terrabyte SATA II raid for a Macbook Pro
that should be able to do uncompressed 1080i.
Now, if there was another port on the macbook pro for the HDSDI card :(
