which way to go?
 

I have a shoot coming up that will be mostly outdoors. I have the option of using H1 or SONY DSR-450ws Both have a 24p mode. anyway, they are not sure if its going dvd or blown up for larger projection (not a film out) just shown bigscreen. Would you take the DVCAM camera because it would have better add-ons available and then do some post magic to increase rez ( FCP plug-in maybe?) or would you work with the H1 standard package items and deal with the current limitations that come with working this camera outdoors, in the heat??

Depends on what they may want down the road. I have a Sony DSR300 with a Canon lens which provides excellent 800 line pictures and looks more than terrific on a big/huge screen (the 300 is limited to 4x3 however) - it's the camera that was used for TIMECODE.

I shoot everything with the H1 now, though, so I have more options with the final product - but I can't bring myself to unload the Sony, it's served me too well (kinda like with a dog - puppies are cute, but old dogs are loyal)...

If your project is only ever going to be seen in SD DVD, the Sony camera is a champ...

Also, forgot to add - I wasn't aware that the 450ws has a 24p option.. I don't believe it does but I could be wrong..

If you're sold on 24p, you might want to consider the XL2 since working with the H1's 24f has some work-around issues for post production - and still NO DECK!

all of Sony's pro line now have a 24p mode even the digibeta. the 450 replaced the 570, They want the option to be able to playout to a large venue. From a high end projector of course, The rest of the feature was shot on HDCAM, however this new part will be flashbacks anyway and will have a heavy post effect tweek layover. Also I believe that the movie 24 Days used the 570 camera for some of the sequences and it held up when I viewed it. I just believe that the robustness of the 450 and the ability to quickly playback and view sequences works for the flow of production?? any other thoughts would be much welcomed. FYI the HDCAM stuff was downconverted to DVCAM for editing purposes.
