Field of View comparisons, 20x vs. 6x
 

Wide and telephoto comparison images from the XL HD 20x and 6x lenses. All of these still photos were shot at f/3.7 in order to maintain consistency throughout the spread; the max. aperture on the 20x lens at full tele is f/3.5 so that was my baseline for everything. Zero db gain. Shutter 1/30th. Subject is the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida. Full wide and full telephoto with both XL HD lenses, the 20x and 6x. Thank you very much for posting the images. The first thing I wanted to check is, to which extent the new lens creates the magenta and green layers on the borders between dark and light regions like the 20x. Looking at the towers it seems such effects do appear also with the 6x lens. What is you impression, is this puzzling with the 6x lens when viewing the image in full rez from a reasonable distance?

I have not seen these on an HDTV monitor. They're not from video; they're just still photo .JPG's that I recorded on an SD card using the still image record function. There wasn't even a tape in the camera.

it's amazing that the 20x has more curvature/barrel distortion at full wide than the wide angle does! Where'd you get your hands on that bad boy chris? has it hit the street yet?

I'm not so sure the 20x has curviture at the wide end. The building ITSELF is curved pretty drastically.. the vertical lines seem to remain vertical.

The building is curved, and I *thought* the tripod was level, but...

well yeah, obviously the building is curved!

look at the straight edges of the walls at the edges of the frame, they curve slightly inward on the 20x, this is called barrel distortion and the 20x does have it, most large range zooms do. i have noticed it many times in the past and lining the 6x up against the edges of straight walls at DV expo i was very impressed that the 6x didn't exhibit much at all at full wide.
