XL-1 Auto Power Off?

Hi!

I'm doing a stop motion project by connecting my XL-1 (not S) to my computer through i.link and capturing directly from the camera to the computer (without tape).

My question is, how do I stop the camera from automatically powering off (since it think it's not really in use as it's not actually recording)? It's a pain to keep turning it off and on. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Kel

Try not closing the tape door.

Hi Kelly,

As Nori points out, you can trick the XL1 into staying on indefinitely by following this procedure:
1) Press Eject button
- allow exterior cassette door -and- interior cassette transport door to open
2) Without pushing the interior cassette transport door fully back in, close the exterior cassette door.

The XL1 will now stay powered on indefiintely. This is, in a way, simulating "VCR Stop" mode which is featured on the newer XL1S - since there is no tape inserted and the interior door is left open, the XL1 does not have the need to power down as it would if there was a tape inside.

You can also just leave both doors open, but somehow I think it is more prudent to keep the exterior door shut to prevent any mishap or dust to collect in the cassette transport area.

Sounds like you are working on an interesting project! Please do share it with us when your project is completed.

Keep in touch,

- don

Actually, just don't put a tape in. It will stay on indefinitely with no tape.

Toggel on/off in analog output wiht "On Screen" button on the remote.

If you want it out off the viewfinder display, you will have to modify the connection from the camcorder to the EVF.
