Advice on filters

I am going to begin shooting a short in about
a week, and was wondering if anyone had advice
on some (specific) filters.

I am looking for bright and grainy footage.

I am new to the XL1, so any advice would help.

Thanks,

Pine

Not soon enough to help you, but in about a month I hope to experiment with some 4x4 filters and write it up for the Watchdog. Not much help to you now, though -- sorry,

bright and grainy

I edit on matrox rt2k and can get hi contrast scenes aplying the matrox colorization filter. It works great! Adobe Prem has a "brightness and contrast" filter that may give You fine results.

For the grainy, you could set the XL1 gain to 12dB (XL1S has 36dB gain) and power it up, if necessary, using a sharpen filter on your edit softw.

The combination of hi contrast and grainy image plus shot in frame mode could give you a impressive film look.

Cheers,
Marcelo

RE: Thanks

Thanks for the advice!

My first thought, as usual, is always "to shoot
for edit". I am going to do a little experimenting
for myself, and I will sure post my findings concerning a "grainy/bright" look with my XL1.

I really enjoy this discussion group, as it has
helped me many times in planning an approach to
my upcoming short.

Thanks again for the advice and the discussion
group.

Jason
