XL1s 16x9 guides and Vegas 4
I'm curious. . .how do the 16:9 guides in the XL1s compare to the 16:9 presets in Vegas 4, using the pan crop tool or track motion? I've been using the guides when shooting, and it seems the black bars in Vegas don't cover as much area as they should compared to what I'm framing in camera. Someone sent me a template for 16:9, and it got taken out in the great hard drive crash of '03.

Maybe Canon was smart and cropped off a little more then needed with the guides on the XL1s, to help with peoples generally bad framing. :D
I use the 16:9 preset in the pan/crop tool in vegas all the time, and it seems accurate to me. |
Doesn't look right. . .in the XL1s' viewfinder, you can see that lines are further, above and below, the title safe area if the color LCD had markings. In Vegas, it's not even in the title safe area. . .may just cut across the border. I could have my Vegas title/action safes set wrong, according to most editors/viewfinders, but they've never messed me up in the past.

Josh,
Actually, there are many versions of "16:9". See Rob Lohman's Letterbox Calculator to get your own templates. |
Thanks. Still not entirely sure what the answer is to my question is, though . . .I guess it would depend on finding out what the XL1s' pixel aspect ratio is?

Ok, this sucks. When I do LadyX I want to make sure that I'm using the right guides so I don't frame incorrectly.
Can I be certain, that if I use Robs calculator, save the graphic, turn it into a title mix image on the XM2 and frame that way, that I will get the correct framing? Cheers Aaron |
Yes Aaron, that is correct. On the Lady X project we are using
my masks. If you stick to those all will be fine! |
Are you guys shooting on an XL1s? With the 16:9 guides?
|
I'm shooting on an XL1s and using the 16:9 guidelines indeed.
They only deviate from my calculations a tiny bit. |
