Varizoom Monitor Question
 

Before I send off my newly acquired Varizoom LCD Monitor Kit for repairs (just took it out the box today) I wondered if others have seen this problem.

I turn the monitor on and all seems OK. After 30 seconds, it goes much darker and the colors go bluer. Then it settles down and stays constant. A little tweaking brings it up to an acceptable level.

I called Varizoom support, who said "send it in" but before I do that I wanted to find out if this is a "problem" or if the monitor is just "warming up" in the generic sense of the phrase.

Any else seen this anomoly?

Remember that these are cheap, inexpensive LCD monitors. For the money, I think it's probably not that big of a deal. A more expensive monitor most likely will not show this pattern. Hopefully you're dealing with my buddy Tom Smith at VariZoom, a real nice guy who will do his best to take care of you. But I wanted to point out that these things are coming from overseas with very little margin for VariZoom, so don't expect to much from the monitor. I have one myself, but I'm just using it until I can get a nice Panasonic. Hope this helps,

I spoke to a guy (not Tom Smith) who sounded like a complete moron. When I called back to find out how I should ship it, I was told in a very condescending tone that they would pay for the shipping (send us the receipt!). Normally a company gives you detailed shipping instructions for an 'out of box' failure

This whole thing looks bad to me. Is it too much to ask that a picture should remain stable after switching it on? I don't think so - even if it is a cheap one.

I think I'll send it back to B & H and get the Panasonic. It's worthwhile sprining the extra bucks for. A decent field monitor is an absolutely essential part of a video package.

Hi Ron, since you bought it from B&H then that's a good deal. Returning it shouldn't be a problem. The Panasonic 7" is widely considered to be a very good LCD monitor well worth the extra expense. Good luck,
