AE Shift Display
 

I've lost the AE shift display in the viewfinder, XL1.
Anyone got any idea's how I can get it back. The AE shift is still working, it's just the display has gone.

That's funny, I have the display but it doesn't appear to change anything. I never use AE but just curious as to why it doesn't appear (in the viewfinder) to work.

Dave: did you change the amount of detail the viewfinder is showing? In some settings it does not show that kind of information

G: remember that it only works in TV an AV modes (if I remember correctly)!

No Rob I'm not aware of making any changes.
As far as I was aware you could either have display of everything or not. Is it possible I've pressed a button by mistake?

Yes, I think the button is labeled Display or something near the
menu controls (don't have the camera sitting besides me now).
Check the manual. It's quite easy to press I think.

"By controlling the level of the automatic exposure (AE) function, you can lighten or darken the image
slightly. This allows you to compensate for backlit subjects or subjects with predominately dark or light tones.
Using AE Shift
1. Turn the POWER dial to the Auto, Tv or Av recording program.
2. Turn the AE SHIFT dial to adjust the AE..."

I never use "auto" mode but I shot a mock car crash for a drunk driver awareness program last week complete with police cars, ambulances, and even a hearse. The "injured" people were inside a solid white car on a very sunny day ( if that wasn't enough contrast, 2 of them were dark skinned).
Well, my job was to look like a phrantic news crew trying to capture everything including the drunk driver that was tackled by 4 policemen when he tried to run away in handcuffs (it got a little over-dramatic). Anyway, a few minutes of running around with my finger constantly adjusting the iris I figured I should try auto mode and just kick up the exposure a little but nothing happened; however I just now tried it again inside and it worked fine on both cameras. I was pointed at the white car at the time so maybe -2 just wasn't enough to affect all the 100% zebra stripes I was seeing...oh well.
