now that xl1s is out, how much should i sell xl1s for?

what price points? i don't think there is a 'blue book' on camcorders like there is for used automobiles...

$3,000? 2,000?

Jeff Donald July 13th, 2004 04:46 PM

The "Blue Book" for most things used is spelled ebay.

Yi Fong Yu July 13th, 2004 04:52 PM

it looks like around $3,000... i think the sooner i sell it the better...

Steve Olds July 14th, 2004 04:53 PM

Ebay is always too high for me. On most things.

Tony Hall July 14th, 2004 05:22 PM

Yeah, it does seem like things go for a lot on Ebay... probably because someone with lots of good feedback is unlikely to screw you over. People feel more secure about buying from people when they can leave negative feedback.

Is there a cheaper place than Ebay to find the XL1S right now... shouldn't there be some clearance sales or something? Canons just don't come down in price much.

Tony Hall July 14th, 2004 05:24 PM

and I know that you encourage people to buy from your sponsors... I spend more than most people make at B&H, but there's no way I'm paying that much for an XL1S. I love B&H (well, not they're customer service), but I'm not stupid.

Well, I guess I asked a stupid question since there's a big notice at the top of the forum about it.

Steve Olds July 14th, 2004 05:27 PM

If I was buying I would look right here! On DV info. Lots of good people here to buy things from. Ebay people make good money just off the ship and hand. fees they charge.
I have not had a problem here with anything I have bought from DV people.

Good Luck Steve

I've got an XL1s that's going up on the sale block shortly (believe it or not, it's not just because of the XL2, just funky timing). The thing that is either bad or good about it is that it will be sold without a lens. This means that you can decide which lens you want rather than paying for a lens you don't need. For instance, I sold my 16x (white) lens last year because I'm a 14x manual guy (and am keeping that lens to use with the XL2 eventually). You can still pick up 14x pretty inexpensively, and have a nice shooting package. Anything you might be interested in, Tony?

Actually, this brings up a good question; I assume the 20x lens will be backwards compatible with the XL1s?

Dylan Couper July 14th, 2004 07:08 PM

Charles, the 20x lens indeed seems to be backwards compatible, based on the info Chris put up in the XL2 Watchdog.

Rob Moreno July 14th, 2004 08:03 PM

Before being discontinued, they were advertised in magazines for around $2700 new. I would say $2000 would be a fair price for an XL1s in good condition.

Tony Hall July 14th, 2004 09:45 PM

I just sent you an email Charles

Yi Fong Yu July 14th, 2004 09:58 PM

btw i contacted b&h's department and found that the max they will pay for xl1s is $2,000 no matter how new. that's including lens!!!! so obviously it is easier to sell to other DV users.

and for the first time i've also visited the DVI classifieds section... i never knew it existed!!! woo hoo! i will be taking lots of pictures and posting my xl1s for sale soon as i hear about xl2 delivery! i'll probably sell it for $3k (includes original 16IIx lens)

Tony Hall July 14th, 2004 10:13 PM

and then they turn around and sell it for $3300 bucks

Ryan Mattos July 15th, 2004 05:20 PM

No one is going to buy an xl1 for over 3k. They sell on ebay right now for consistently under 2500. And i assume once the xl2 hits the market the prices will go down as well.
