Tasty mini DV
Has anyone experienced a problem with tapes being eaten?
If so, is it more common to one brand than another. From my experience about 1 in 10 of my JVC M-DV60ME are being eaten. I can't really attribute this problem to the tape since I haven't had my camera "checked out" for two years now. But just checking to see what everyone else thinks. Thanks- Nori |
FWIW: I use Panasonic MiniDV tape. No eaten tape problem in the 4 years I've had the XL1.
|
I should also add that I have shot 2 features and about 10 shorts and music videos with my camera and I have only had problems with the JVC lately. I've used about 100 different tapes, of numerous brands.

Nori,
What mode was the camera in when the hunger pains began? (Play, rewind, eject, etc.???) I have recently had a problem with my camera getting hungry in the rewind mode. I had to buy a mini dv winder to do all fast forwarding and rewinding. I have changed brands and it is still happening. To make matters worse, the New Jersey repair facility couldn't find a problem. Not cool. Good Luck, Bill |
It has always been within the first minute of a new tape when recording.

My XL1s started eating tapes whenever I hit rewind button, leading me to look into possible reasons for this problem. I have been informed by various XL1s users over here (UK) that this is not an uncommon problem with new XL1s'. It sounds like a send your XL1in to Canon for repair, that's what I'm having to do. oops!
Just realised I addressed my reply to Bills post to Nori Appologies to both for the mix up John |
I got to the end of a tape once, and when I rewound, it forced me to eject the tape. The tape itself was caught up in the play heads. Only happened once, with a Panasonic Linear Plus.

I've tried about 10 JVC ME tapes and have had problems with one of them. My machine did not eat the tape but it had a bad (unrecordable) spot about three quarters of the way through and of course my time code was interrupted. When I rewind it is really jittery and noisy (makes me nervous, especially after reading about your experience). I'm still hunting for a consistantly reliable brand - I guess Panasonic is next...
