maximum time of recording on xl1s?
 

I will need to record 12 hours without stop (ok, only to change the tapes). It could be some problem for my xl1s...or...thanks..

I don't understand your question Cesar. The XL1S can record for thousands
of hours if you feed it the tapes.

You will need to switch a tape every 60 minutes (1 hour). If that is not an
option you will need to look at a technology called direct-to-disk recording
(around $1000 for such a device I think), see our forums for that. A last
option would be to bring a laptop or other computer and record directly to
that with a software program like DVRack. It's good to also record to tape
for a safety back up in that case.

No that should not be a problem. The XL1S is a "pro-sumer" camera. It should
have no problems operating for such amounts of time.

I have seen several similar Threads to this one. Do you recall what settings we have to use on the XL1s to get more than 1 hour of recording onto an external device (ie - VCR / Disk Based recorders)?

I recall that the proper set up was to use the AC adaptor (instead of a battery) to power the camera and also do not put a Mini DV tape in the Camera.

Is that the correct set up or do you have to change something (timmer?) in the setup menu?

Also if you put a Mini DV tape in the camera you will have a backup as well. Now what will happen if the camera tape runs out. Does the recording stops altogether for both?

I'm not Rob but what I do is ..... go into the menu to custom keys, and I set key 1 for "VCR stop" and exit the menu.Now key 1 is always VCR stop.Then with a tape in go into record and press cstm 1 the heads retract and stop the drum from spinning.This should prevent the camera from going into auto shutdown.I have also recorded to tape and my laptop but have never tried to stop the tape to see if the output to laptop continues.I'll try it.

Frank: that will depend on the device you attach the camera among other
things (the XL1S has device control as well). You can shutoff the powerdown
option on the XL1S (not the plain XL1).

There are users who can record for hours with an XL1S on a FireStore direct
to disk recorder for example.

First decide which device you want then ask the question specific to that
device (we have a couple of forums for direct to disk recorders).

Another option would be DVRack on your computer (Windows only).
